Opera likes putting absurd limitations on the size of the numbers that he is able to manage correctly in some CSS values. Perhaps the goal is to obtain some speed advantage working on single-byte numbers, or something like that? Who knows!
In the recent past there were problems with some properties when the values were in em unit, greater than 20.
Now, at least in Opera 10.5, there are problems with the CSS3 selector nth-child
. Using nth-child(an+b)
it seems that b cannot be greater than 127 (which is not a so big number that no one would ever use it: large tables and similar objects may well have hundreds of elements).
Update! The problem has been fixed in Opera 11.6 (see changelog, CORE-24836).
Below there are four blocks with 200 child elements each. The children just contain a progressive number, corresponding to their position. Some children are highlighted with an orange background, in the following way:
- In the first block, using the rule
child(10n+127)
, which should select the children 127, 137, ... 197.
- In the second block, using the rule
child(10n+128)
, which should select the children 128, 138, ... 198.
- In the third block, using the rule
child(10n+136)
, which should select the children 136, 146, ... 196.
- In the fourth block, using the rule
child(10n+267)
, which should select no child (the first should be the 267th, but there are only 200).
In the last three cases (having b greater than 127) Opera does not work correctly.
Probably 128 becomes -128, 136 becomes -120, and 267 becomes 11.
